Happy Nurses Day 2009

A shift starts, call bells, phone calls, documentation, baths, medications, core measures, ordersets, report, consults, vitals, updating families...the list goes on.

It's not the kind of thing you do for glamour... you do it so that someone can just make it through the day. You do it by holding a hand or saying a few words to reassure or to calm. You do whatever you have to do because you care. And that makes all the difference.

Arixtra-the new Prophylaxis for DVT/PE

Heparinoids: Atrixia
Heparinoids are possibly the newest class of anticoagulants. Currently, there is only one drug in this class, Atrixia. Atrixia is a subcutaneous injection that is give once a day. It is usually used short term (only 5-9 days). It is the only anticoagulant that inhibits only factor Xa and does not affect thrombin.
Atrixia is typically taken once daily
Atrixia is new and therefore may be expensive
Atrixia is another anticoagulant option
